GSGEDM Student CoLab

The GSGEDM Student CoLab is an innovative educational program that introduces students to the art of documentary filmmaking while exploring the rich history of Detroit Techno. Founded in 2024 by Washington Hill Pictures, this program offers high school and university students a unique opportunity to develop their storytelling skills through the lens of one of America's most influential musical movements. Drawing inspiration from God Said Give 'Em Drum Machines, participants learn the fundamentals of documentary production, including research, interviewing techniques, and multimedia storytelling. Students create short films and other projects that delve into the cultural impact and legacy of Detroit Techno, gaining hands-on experience in filmmaking while simultaneously uncovering the city's vibrant musical heritage. As the program expands alongside the release of GSGEDM, it aims to foster creativity, technical skills, and a deeper appreciation for the intersection of music, culture, and documentary storytelling.

We have already worked with three cohorts of students, and are beginning the next round of the DSA Student CoLab with the Career and Technical with a group of multimedia production students. WHP hopes to bring CoLab programs to more high schools and universities across the world.
